Statement on Justice and Peace for Palestine and Israel

We recognise the deep sorrow felt by many within our Kildare Ministries community who have personal, family or cultural ties with Palestine and Israel, and who are profoundly impacted by the war in Gaza.

We acknowledge that conflict, displacement and human suffering continue in many parts of our world, and we hold all peoples enduring such pain in our thoughts and prayers.

On 16 September 2025, the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry “concluded that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza”1.

On 21 September 2025, the Commonwealth of Australia formally recognised the independent and sovereign State of Palestine. The Australian Government has reiterated that a two-state solution remains the essential path to a just, secure and lasting peace for both the Israeli and the Palestinian peoples.

This statement is grounded in the Vision of Kildare Ministries, which proclaims that all creation is recognised as sacred and that hope, justice and courage are our hallmarks. Guided by this Vision and standing with those who are marginalised and oppressed, the Trustees of Kildare Ministries:

  • Support the Australian Government’s recognition of the State of Palestine, as an important measure towards justice and self-determination.
  • Call for a permanent ceasefire, an end to the genocide, and full humanitarian access to those affected.
  • Stand in solidarity with all victims of violence – Palestinian and Israeli – and with those working for peace, reconciliation and healing.
  • Support Palestinian rights, and advocate for justice, equality and freedom for Palestinians and Israelis alike.

Our Living Justice Living Peace Charter reminds us, “The life and teachings of Jesus challenge us to be just and to live in peace.” Guided by this call, and in the spirit of the charisms of our founding Brigidine and Presentation Sisters, we reaffirm that every human life is sacred.

Each Kildare Ministries school and community work is invited to consider the action it could take in joining the global call for justice and enduring peace in the Holy Land.

Together, may we continue to accompany those within our community most deeply affected by this conflict, offering understanding, solidarity and care.
